Transformation is a goal for 2020 at Rock-n-Zen Gardens, with the addition of new plants and a DIY rock garden that will serve as a visual feature from the side window. Gardening is a personal expression of my artistic skills merging with wonderment for nature's perfection.
Embracing the beauty and utility of wildflowers and grasses, we discover that they are not mere weeds, but valuable resources. They serve as medicines, contribute to food cultivation, aid in land preservation, and adorn our gardens with their natural charm, requiring no excessive maintenance.
2014 marks my first serious attempt at vegetable gardening. Living in Nova Scotia, Canada, a growing zone rated for 6b hardiness, we are well-suited for this endeavor. Living on the edge of an ocean and wilderness brings some extra challenges we had to consider with building our vegetable garden.
After sorting through numerous landscaping ideas for two years, we decided against a traditional grass lawn and opted for Square Foot Gardening techniques, utilizing round rock and crusher dust. We want an easy-going look while incorporating food plants with flowers.
