Art Portfolio

WELCOME to Minaz Jantz's Art Portfolio
When does a painting become fine art?

Painting fine art is utilizing any medium that may express 6 painterly actions such as line, value, texture, color, edges, and shape which are organized to compose a feeling or a story that is started from the moment a line or blob strikes the surface such as canvas, paper or wood.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artworks are visual diaries of 'living a life as an artist'. The topics are influenced by what visual stimulation is before me and when triggered emotionally these shapes with color will tell of a story. I will choose the medium and style to best express the inspirations.

The mediums I use in painting and drawing are chosen for their unique qualities such as; oil paints, acrylics, oil pastels, soft pastel, inks, markers, graphite pencil, charcoal, water-color, foils, found objects, fiber, papers and whatever comes my way that has possibilities to creatively push.

To keep me interested & learning, I like to lighten up the tension and mix styles such as representational and then go into abstract, sculptural, and experimental work. Mixing up my mediums and styles keeps my skills growing towards my own personal style as well it keeps my art fresh with discoveries I like to call happy accidents.

I wish that you will enjoy my work and also be inspired to look for art in all that you do!

Artistically Inspired,

LANDSCAPE GALLERY

'Landscapes Gallery' is an ongoing series of compositions inspired by travels & local natural beauty. We walk along the beaches and Rails to Trails wilderness to enjoy the fresh air of the Atlantic ocean. One thing I notice, when walking in our favorite places, is how Mother Nature changes her appearance and never is it the same view twice!

FLOWERS-N-THINGS GALLERY

'Flowers & Things Gallery' is an ongoing collection of paintings featuring flowers and some favorite things. Flowers indulge play with pure color and Mother Nature's beautifully constructed geometric design. My favorite 'things' are objects that catch my interest in design elements, shapely lines, surface texture, and color.

NUDES GALLERY

'Nudes Gallery' is a series of paintings involving years of drawing sessions with 'live' nude female and male models who are amazing people of tolerance and stillness. I am grateful for the opportunity to study the nude as family and friends can find it a little intimidating and body numbing to pose for me! The professional 'life drawing' models offer their nude bodies for us to study, stare and paint for up to 3 hours in a sitting. They develop an ability to stand and sit still for long periods of time so the artist has time to get all the gestures, shadows and nuances. The best models it seems are those who practice YOGA so they can sit still but also they have great recall memory of their body positioning so when they need to take a break, they can come back to the very same position which is so VERY important for continuity of the original lines and gestures made by the artist.

GEO-ESPRESSO SERIES

'Geo-Espresso Series 2012-2013' was created on a roundtable, in a rental garage apartment, while building our new studio and home in Seaforth, Nova Scotia. I had lots of time on my hands but everything I owned was across the country in storage. I purchased some NEW Copic Cia markers and bought some Bristol paper to create the Geo-Espresso art series. I was doing a home study of both Sacred Geometry and Celtic knots and so my mind would disappear into another world of abstract and colorful design!

MUSICIAN BAND GALLERY

'Musician & Band Gallery' is a series inspired by rhythm & the story of live music. I created drawings inspired by LIVE music by carting a big sketchbook from one 'gig' to the next to draw upon the live performances for inspiration and to capture the energy of the music, musicians and the location in bold lines, shape, colors, and gestures.
