Guerrilla City Art on Hydro Poles in Vancouver, B.C.

HYDRO-Pole Art Show, East Vancouver, BC. I am a seeker of 'free art' that is offered throughout the East Vancouver neighborhood. I do not advocate for the destruction of private property, but I appreciate inventive ideas and messages that graffiti artists convey to the public.

While walking around East Vancouver with my neighbor's dog, Miss Hailey, I discovered some exciting public artworks, all made from discarded items, nailed into the hydro poles along Strathcona's sidewalks.

I'm not sure if these are all created by one person, but I suspect they may have been made by several artists. I decided to follow the sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, looking more intently for these art gems nailed into otherwise ugly hydro poles.

These artworks are made from tin cans, drywall, plastic pieces with words, and intricately painted or collaged.

I'm unsure how long these little art gems have been posted, as some appear to be older than others, while new art pieces have been added sporadically over time. Sporting my trusty Canon Digital Rebel camera, I went out to photograph the displays of Hydro Pole art. While I was taking my snapshots of the poles, passersby were sure to wonder what sort of drugs I might be on... of course, I am searching for art and inspiration in the most unlikely places.
