Captain Terrible & Jab His Worm is a symbolic satire painting of political insanity. I add a splash of color and a twist of humor to sort out the bull crap of our country's leadership, ruled by a delusional, spoiled MAN/BOY. But this is not just a critique, it's a call for all of us to engage in critical thinking and question the status quo. That's my take... this is my art.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Why Can't We Be Friends?'
Captain Terrible & Jab His Worm * Why Can't We Be Friends?
Watercolor, watercolor pencils, gouache, ink pen, gold dust with acrylic medium.
Prime Minister Trudeau, also known as Captain Terrible, frequently calls his citizens derogatory names and accuses them of heinous crimes without much consideration for the consequences of his words, while demonstrating a lack of respect and responsibility in his handling of the honorable position of Prime Minister. We expect him to demonstrate leadership qualities based on Canada's Charter of Rights & Freedoms, the spine of our democratic country.
Captain Terrible & Jab His Worm: Why Can't We Be Friends?
Original pencil drawing in a sketchbook.
My sketchbook is not just a repository for ideas for future paintings. It's a space where I can express my feelings and emotions, and this is reflected in my artwork. Sometimes I draw directly from realism, and sometimes I draw from my imagination, but always with a deep connection to my emotions. I hope this emotional connection resonates with you, the viewer.
Going back to Vancouver, B.C., in the early 2000s, I met this handsome young man, Justin Trudeau. I was standing near the window in a small liquor store where I was giving away free cold beer as a promotion. JT, a young man, was kissing a girl out front of the window, all smitten with youthful lusty-love vibes. He came into the shop all 'skip-itty' and flushed after the KISS, so I teased JT and offered him a cold beer to drink. We chat, he sips, and he was like any other young guy with a whole life to look forward to the future. When JT was elected, I thought, well, it might be good for Canada to have some fresh ideas to enliven up our country's lackluster politics. Be careful about what you wish for!
Close-up of painting:
NOTICE the blue boot stabbing through the center of the maple leaf,
The wilting symbol of a democratic Canada.
I will leave all the rest of the symbols for you to resolve that speak your own truth.
Golden Clear Acrylic Medium & Schmincke Gold Dust
NOTE: The gold on the purple crown is created by applying a brushed-on Golden Acrylic Medium in the area where the Schmincke gold dust is to stick. Using a puffy old makeup brush, I dab into the Gold Dust and tap it over a finger to let the gold dust fall into the wet medium. I lightly fluff the brush over top, mixing in gold dust into spots with little coverage. There is textural surface quality, and it relatively stays put where there is the medium, while the excess gold dust blows off the dry paper.
Supplies:
Fabriano Hot Press Watercolor Paper
Professional Grade Watercolors

Schmincke Gold Dust
